GENERAL IRVING
Brooklyn
Summer 2020
As a retired auto shop - we installed 4 operable garage doors to allow the outside in, creating a permeable threshold with the sidewalk and Irving Square Park. Inside, a warm and eclectic design intends to create an inviting space for the local neighborhood to hang out, converse, shop, and eat.
For the furniture, we challenged ourselves to source as much as possible reclaimed & upcycled - and where we had to use new production items, we worked with local artisans and makers. We worked with Brooklyn based furniture designer, Hannah Bigeleisen, to fabricate some of the brighter elements of the space. In an effort to keep materials as local as possible, the large ‘grocery’ shelving unit was sourced from Hudson Valley Pine and fabricated in house by Clear Studios. All of the other millwork is made from reclaimed wood sourced down the block at M Fine Lumber and fabricated by a member of the Re-ad team.
